It is what it is, a record, as in a document of a particular group of people at a particular time making music. A new recording would be just that, something altogether different different group of players in a different situation doing very old songs. In fact, it would just be the songs that were rerecorded, not the album itself which has a existence of its own..Having seen the same show that Charles McNulty did at the Old Globe I have to wonder if the enthusiastic reaction of the hundreds of satisfied theatergoers couldn't have softened his pen a little.
